Hi, my name is Becka Kelley and I believe everyone has the potential and ability to live and love a healthy lifestyle. Choosing to make health a priority is not as easy as it may seem. You have things to accomplish, people to care for, and stress to manage. You may have chronic illness or a history which leads you to believe health is not possible for you. The decision to make different choices around food, exercise, sleep, connection, and self-care can feel restrictive, overwhelming, and just plain hard. What if it were possible to live a healthier lifestyle from a place of choice, joy, and ease?
Through Health Psychology Coaching, I create space to explore the barriers to making healthy choices and the nourishing practices that will support you in living a happy, healthy, and wholehearted life. You can expect to walk away with a sense of awareness, empowerment, and self-compassion. I specialize in helping people transition to, maintain, and thrive on a plant-based diet, especially those who struggle with numbing, emotional eating, and chronic health issues.
Coaching versus Therapy
Many people elect to utilize coaching services as a supplement to existing therapy. This is especially true if one is struggling with issues of abuse, sexual assault, or suicidality. While coaching targets a specific concern, much can arise in a session that may be best brought up with a therapist. The coaching process is typically between 1-8 sessions in length. Self Portrait of a Health Psychology Coach
The question I asked myself before creating the artwork shown above is ‘what would enable me to give from a place of joy and generosity instead of a place of obligation, scarcity and guilt?’ This might be something very similar I’d ask a client to do when incorporating the expressive arts into coaching. Immediately, I thought of an image of a glass of water. In the past I would give until I was dry and only then would I believe I finally deserved something for myself. I was introduced to the concept of filling myself up so much that I could give from the overflow, and that is what my picture represents. I listed the things I can do to “fill my cup” and the things I can give generously from that place of fulfillment.
This represents how I work with clients in that I support clients in becoming aware of what is the root cause of their challenge (why they are running low on water), how to practice self-compassion surrounding the challenge (instead of blaming themselves for being dry), and how to empower themselves to take action to live the life of their deepest desires (how to refill the cup!).
