Acknowledging this can be huge in recognizing that we get to choose to enjoy the moment…right here, right now…regardless of whether things are exactly as we would like or not. Getting started is half the battle and just picking up that paint brush or scheduling that class you’ve always wanted to try…or even calling a therapist to figure out how to cultivate joy in your life is truly the hardest part. Once you decide to start the next steps become much easier after the initial plunge.
So what keeps us from starting? I’ll tell you. It’s over-thinking! We all do it, but as soon as we catch ourselves doing it we can totally choose to stop thinking and start doing. Life does not have to be so full of contemplation about the right and wrong decisions. It was Shakespeare who said, “There is neither right, nor wrong; thinking makes it so.” Our judgment really can and does slow us down. We are so concerned with doing things RIGHT that we end up not doing much of anything at times. So just for today I urge you to step out of your head a bit and pick just one thing you have been wanting to try or do again. Regardless of how big or small…just choose one thing for yourself: call that friend you have been missing but procrastinating for weeks or go to the grocery and get the ingredients for that new recipe you have been dying to try. Maybe it’s more serious than that and you need to have a difficult conversation with someone you love or even pick up the phone and call for help. No matter how little or long you have been procrastinating or how light-hearted or dire the action you can do this! Just remember the first step is the hardest and there is not a right
way…completion not perfection is our goal for today. Leave me a comment below and let me know what step you have been putting off and what you can do today to move past waiting for things to be right!
