Well I can’t say that I previously considered myself an expert in the area of adult coloring books, so I was surprised to learn they are the top sellers on Amazon when ABC Channel 15, The List, called to interview me about the benefits of coloring. In fact, I decided to google it myself and wouldn’t you know the next thing I see is a book of erotica coloring pages! Wow. Wasn’t expecting that but it doesn’t surprise me with stress at an all time high as evidenced by the rise of chronic illness and disease. Adults are looking for help wherever they can get it! Needless to say I was flattered and reminded of just how helpful adult coloring can be. In fact, I found myself Zentangling during recent sessions which I should totally share a picture of. Will do soon!
Adults are looking for alternatives to reduce stress, get creative, balance their work load, and improve their health. I’ve never been one to do much coloring myself as I am drawn to nature, paint, and found objects. I have also found it can even be a bit tiring on my wrists, but it can certainly be meditative and quite helpful for improving focus, allowing creativity, and managing anxiety as I’ve seen with numerous patients while working in various facilities. Coloring can allow you to find that flow state which becomes just as meditative as a nature walk or yoga practice. Just as you would follow the breath you can begin to follow the patterns and tune into your own process. So, check out the top 3 reasons to color in my recent interview and be sure to leave a comment below. I’d love to hear the last time you did some coloring!
